Introduction to Composite Materials for Manufacturing

* Linda Clements, Nevada Composites

Manufacturing processes and materials must be selected and used appropriately but also must be chosen to work well with one another. In this workshop we will explore the types, properties, and forms of composite materials available, with an emphasis upon manufacturing. Both those having little experience with composites and those desiring more understanding will benefit from this workshop. Audience interaction is encouraged. Some of the topics covered will be how composites offer such outstanding properties; available fibers and resins, their forms, and their use in manufacturing; composite materials for specific applications; and an overview of composite materials economics.

Tooling Technologies: 2012

* Lou Dorworth, Abaris Training

This workshop explores a variety of tooling materials, fabrication processes, and newer design methods for producing quality molds, mandrels, and fixtures used to manufacture composite structures. The presentation will include a brief history of tooling, as well as the evolution of materials and tool design over the past thirty years. In addition, we will closely examine new technologies that have emerged in the past decade that are most relevant today. This session is designed to be audience-interactive, allowing attendees to ask questions and discuss ideas during the course of the presentation.
